Meet our Board of Directors for 2022/2023

The Society of Canadian Artists board of directors is made up from 12 volunteer members from across Canada. Our Executive team consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer. Directors also chair various committees or are representatives for the geographical area in which they reside.

Marissa Sweet SCA President & Director
Marissa is a landscape and cityscape painter who, in merging her creative background with her practice of Feng Shui metaphysics, creates work about conservation. Her work explores interconnectivity with our environment and its importance. Marissa teaches in her home studio and at various private and public galleries and community centres.
Manny Schulz
Manny Schulz SCA Vice President & Director
Born in Winnipeg, Manny graduated from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture in 1981 and afterwards worked as a freelance artist. In 1985, Manny took a pause from his artwork to pursue his business career and obtained an MBA and an accounting designation. In 2016, following a 31-year hiatus from painting, Manny returned to his artwork and has exhibited his acrylic paintings in numerous galleries and juried competitions. Since 2020, Manny has had five paintings juried into Open International Juried Exhibitions curated by the SCA and in April 2021 was elected to the SCA.
Andrea Howson
Andrea Howson SCA Treasurer and Director
Andrea is an acrylic artist living and working in Belwood, Ontario. She completed a Fine Arts program with Honours from Sheridan College and is completing a graphic design program at OCAD University. Although she is diverse in her subject matter, her current focus is on farm life. Her style of artwork is naturally fluid, dynamic, and often intensely colourful. Her paintings show movement, rhythm, and energy, and above all, bring her imagination to life on the canvas.

Deri Chilton-Russell SCA Secretary & Director
Deri is an award-winning artist from Hanover, ON. She is a graduate of the Georgian College Arts & Design program. A long stint running a custom sign business led to a fine arts career in 2016. Now Deri focuses on acrylic impressionistic painting. She was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Society of Canadian Artists in 2018. Her work has been accepted into many national shows. Deri has won some provincial and national awards and has been featured in Art Ascent Magazine.
Kathy Hildebrandt
Kathy Hildebrandt SCA HON Past President
Kathy is an international award-winning artist. She is a signature member of 8 national and international art organizations, is a Master Pastellist of Canada, and is part of the International Association of Pastel Society's Master Circle. She is the President of Pastel Artists.CA and was the President of the SCA from June 2019 to June 2021.

Roslyn Levin SCA Membership Chair & Director
Roslyn is a Japanese Brushstroke (sumi-e) artist. Amongst her awards, she is a three-time winner of the Ruth Yamada Award for sumi-e and a multiple Grand Prize winner in Shodo Canada's annual exhibit - juried in Japan. Her work has been featured in Circle Magazine Roslyn teaches sumi-e and has written “The Brush Dances” on how to paint in this medium. She has been a Studio Artist in Dragonfly Arts in Orangeville for 16 years. Roslyn paints mainly birds and animals and nature. Besides bringing beauty to the world, she wishes people become more aware of what we are losing due to environmental irresponsibility so those who have not awoken to the needs of our planet will become part of the solution to this problem.

Nancy Overbury SCA Exhibitions Chair & Director
Nancy uses heavy buttery layers of impasto and thin translucent glazes of paint applied with spatulas and found objects to emulate depth and to capture movement and feeling. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, where she studied Fine Arts but considers her most valuable art lessons were learned while studying in Nîmes, France. There she discovered how the quality of light and sky influence mood and motion. Her sources of inspiration lie in the natural landscape of Southern Quebec and the Laurentian Mountains.

Adam Strange Associate Publicity Chair & Director
Adam is owner and principal designer of Strange Ideas and has been a professional member of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) since 2004. Adam's focus is always on client satisfaction, striving to bring their branding and marketing to the next level. With an eye for detail and a passion for design, Adam's work continuously blurs the boundaries between art and business. Adam's talent in fine art and graphic design combined with his business acumen result in a unique blend of creative innovation and critical analysis which he brings to all his projects.

Ann Kruzelecky SCA HON Webmaster & Director
Ann holds a BFA from Concordia University (with Distinction, Major Painting and Drawing, Minor in Art Education - Visual Arts). She paints nature in a variety of mediums and has participated in numerous group and solo shows. She has taught educational programs (drawing and watercolours) at the Cummings Center and the West Island Women's Center. Ann is an Honourary member of the Society of Canadian Artists.

Jayne Couch Molony SCA New Member Liaison & Director
A classically trained oil painter, Jayne’s vocation in the Arts & Culture industry ignited with her first scholarship for residency at the Banff Centre of Fine Art. Another scholarship followed for the P.A.A/ City University in Paris France, where she was able to study life drawing at the École des Beaux-Arts and art history under a curator from the musée du Louvre. Jayne’s institutional studies concluded after completing a scholarship to Parsons School of Design in New York city Working from her studio in rural Ontario, Jayne’s work is a symphony of colour and brushwork. Her oil paintings are a modern approach to a traditional medium.

Eugene Jankowski Quebec Representative
Eugene holds a degree in Psychoeducation from the University of Montreal. Since a very young age, he has been involved in the arts, first as a painter and then, for the last thirty five years, as a stone sculptor. He has shown his works internationally as well as nationally. He is the founding President of the Association for Stone Sculptors (ASPM), and is also member of: the Conseil de la Sculpture du Quebec, the board of directors for the RAAV, and the board of directors of CARFAC.

Jodi Kitto-Ward SCA Ontario Representative & Director
Jodi Kitto-Ward is an award winning artist based in Hamilton ON. She is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, the Ontario Society of Artists and the Colour and Form Society. Painting mainly in acrylic with the intention of offering another way of observing life to inspire connective thinking, her work is representational and strongly influenced by line, colour and expression, evoking influences of Pop Art and Art Deco.

Eric Goldstein SCA Western Representative
Vancouver-based Eric Goldstein’s long and productive career as a cinematographer has strongly influenced the art forms that he explores. Eric has photographed over 75 features and televised movies. His work has garnered numerous awards: including an Eastman Kodak Excellence Award; a Gemini Award and several BC’s Leo Awards,. Eric honed his skills as a fine artist at Rhode Island School of Design. Throughout his filmmaking career Eric remained contemporary in the language of art with his metal sculpture and painting. Currently, he is using mixed media to build canvases that are graphically influenced and have strong architectural rhythms “My painted frames express the same underlying concept that I strive for as a cinematographer: poetic narratives with kinetic energy”

Gisèle Léger-Drapeau, SCA Atlantic Representative
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education of fine arts (B.F.A.E.) in 1976 from l’Université de Moncton, Gisèle began teaching fine arts at the high school level and working as an assistant art consultant at the elementary level. Gisèle also teaches methodology of art education at l’U. de M. An elected member of the Canadian Society of Artists, she has been a professional artist for nearly 3 decades. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada (Moncton, Fredericton, St-John, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver), in Europe (France and Portugal) and in North Africa (Tunisia). Working with a rich array of techniques and mediums keeps her constantly motivated. She welcomes artistic challenges.
