The Society of Canadian Artists welcomes professional artists working in every medium — from traditional painting and drawing to new digital media and three-dimensional work — and we equally welcome the art supporters and aficionados who help our community thrive.
Two Levels of Membership
Elected Membership is geared toward professional artists who have gone through our adjudication process — a mark of distinction recognized across the Canadian art world.
Associate Membership welcomes emerging artists who have not yet undergone adjudication, as well as art lovers and supporters who want to be part of our community.
Eligibility
As a national society, all applicants must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents. This means you are either:
- A Canadian-born citizen, whether currently living in Canada or temporarily or permanently residing abroad, or
- Born outside Canada but now a Permanent Resident currently residing in Canada.

Membership in the SCA connects you to a national community — and opens real doors for your art career.
Exhibitions Associate Members are eligible to participate in two annual exhibitions: the Open International Online Exhibition (spring) and the Elected and Associates’ Exhibition (summer). Elected Members may also enter our third annual show, the Elected Members’ Exhibition (fall).
Awards Members are eligible for over $50,000 in annual awards, including the prestigious Mary Pratt Award.
Visibility All members enjoy promotion through our online galleries, and Elected Members are featured in dedicated profile spotlights.
Recognition Elected Members are permitted to use the prestigious “SCA” designation in their signature and CV — a distinction recognized throughout the Canadian art community.
Community All members are welcomed to our Annual General Meeting and other SCA events throughout the year, along with the opportunity to volunteer for jury duties, board positions, and regional SCA events.

How to become a member
Our membership year runs from May 1 to April 30
Associate Member
Associate membership is open throughout the year. Artists considering undergoing the adjudication process for Elected membership are encouraged to join as an Associate member until the next jury date. Select the button below to find out more about Associate membership and register.
Associate membership dues are $55/annually.
Elected
Member
There are two annual calls for Elected membership, every spring and fall. As well, there is an alternate path for Associate’s or the general public who have been successfully juried into three SCA exhibitions within a five year period.
Elected membership dues are $105/annually.
