The Society of Canadian Artists’ (SCA) Elected Members Celebrate Milestones, Canada’s Landscape and Fortuity in anticipation of the SCA’s 70th Platinum Jubilee

The Elected Members’ exhibition recognizes and honours the highest calibre of artistic excellence in the SCA. And, doubly significant, this exhibition is the launch of the SCA’s Platinum Jubilee that will continue to be commemorated throughout 2027. It builds upon the summer exhibition, Home, that revisited the SCA’s founding, our heritage and the proliferation of our artists’ work since our beginning to now- almost 70 years!

Through Celebrate we begin to commemorate these achievements through our Elected Members’ paintings, sculptures and mixed media. The meaning of Celebrate is explored through personal milestones, Canada’s landscape and spontaneous moments that bring joy and reflection.

Personal milestones include decades-long professional arts journeys that have culminated into single works of art. There are works that mark “the courage to step forward and be seen and heard” through one’s art, and wistful retrospection of what has been gained- or lost- through the passing of time.

Celebration of Canada’s landscape demonstrate its aliveness and our rootedness to it. Treasured landmarks and places known for their natural outstanding beauty such as the dolostone escarpment of Georgian Bay, the Northern Lights, the hiking trails of the Niagara Escarpment, the Ottawa Greenbelt, Autum in New Brunswick and summer in Quebec, and of course Lake Ontario, show our affection for our land. In addition, natural materials that we rely on to create art are included in this exhibition.

Often, it’s the unplanned bursts of serendipity that provide the greatest reasons to celebrate. Depictions of childhood wonder and curiosity feature prominently, as are flashes of creativity that grow into something wonderfully unexpected.
